Released today is the fifth Reef Project album, entitled “Aquaculture” on System Recordings. I always wanted to create an entirely beatless ambient release. When I started getting into ambient music in the early 90’s, I always found myself drawn to albums like Brian Eno’s – “Music For Airports” and works from Robert Rich and Steve Roach. I found myself loving how this style of music can be so relaxing at one moment and cause such tension in another. When I started producing under Reef Project in the early 2000’s I always included ambient pieces in all of my work, but it was always interlaced with various forms of IDM styled tracks and downtempo.

I have had the idea to do a completely ambient album for a time now and started working on it in the beginning of 2011. Then it was put on pause as I focused on other things but I came back to it early this year and the music just flowed. This release was originally supposed to be just a 4 to 5 track EP, but it quickly grew as I kept writing. In 2 months I finished up 8 tracks that now compose, “Aquaculture”.

These tracks are very personal to me. They are the sounds of my waking dreams and they are soundtracks I listen to as I put my head down to sleep. I hope this album finds a home in your ears as well. Please take the time to slow down, put this album on and just breathe. I hope you enjoy it.

Reef Project has 2 tracks that are on a new compilation from Looq Records. This new compilation called “From There to Here” gathers the more relaxed tracks to come out on the label into one massively chilled out album. One of Thee-O’s Reef Project tracks has been selected to be placed in NBC’s new hit show, “SMASH”. On the episode that aired on 03/5/2012, his song, “Cero” was featured in a restaurant scene as the background music. This is the first (but hopefully not the last) TV placement for one of his tracks. I am very proud to show off the first official video of any Reef Project track. The title track from the Adrift album has a stunning video highlighting the vocals of Erin Powers. One of my favorite tracks to produce on the last Reef Project album was the the title song, Adrift. The track came about very naturally. I was pretty pleased with the song as a instrumental and was planning on it being just that. Then when Erin Powers came in to the studio to work on another track for the album, I ended up playing this one for her. She wanted to sing on it and I thought that this might take this track over the top. I gave her a copy on CD so she could have it. A week later she came and just knocked out an amazing vocal.

I always intended for this song to be remixed and actually did a house remix of it early in 2011. I then gathered the parts together and gave it to a few friends. The results is this EP that ranges from Chill Out to Breaks to Techno to House. It is great to see other people interpret the song in their own way. Remixers include Bitwise, Angel Alanis and Mondo G.

It is quite an honor for System Recordings to include a Reef Project track on their “10 Years of Chill” compilation. The track they chose to use is the chilled out house track called “Wind, Water, Wishes…”, that feature the lovely vocals of Erin Powers. This track originally came out on the “Hydro Dynamic” album. Working on Adrift took a lot out of me, but I was so happy with the final results. It is nice to know that people seem to enjoy it. Getting tracks played on XM / Sirius and also on KCRW meant a lot to me. In fact it gets me ready to start work on new music under my other moniker. I have some ideas for the next album already…but I digress. Adrift is still new and we are finally getting some reviews in. Igloomag.com is one of the premier online magazines focusing on experimental electronic music. They gave a very insightful review and help validate all the hard work on the album. Here is a quote:

Released today is the fourth Reef Project album, entitled “Adrift” on System Recordings. Making this album has been a labor of love for me for almost a year. There is a loose theme to this album and it is pointed out to you in the title of the album. There are themes of being lost and lonely as well as being found and comforted. I wanted to creates songs that you become lost in and comforted in at the same time. I am happy with the results of this and I am very proud of the album as whole.

The tracks range from pure ambient, to IDM, to Glitch Hop, to Deep Techy House. I always want every Reef Project release to draw from all of my influences in Electronic Music. I hope that by listening to this, you can can find out a little be about me not just as a artist but also as a person enamored by music. Out today is the release of the second EP of Reef Project tracks on Looq Records. This time we got 6 tracks of ambient and experimental electronica. For this EP I even wrote a new song along with some remastered older tracks. The new track is called “Java Barb” and reflects what I am currently doing for Reef Project. The other 5 tracks come from a older, out of print album “Deep End” and a EP I did a few years ago called “New Environs”. I am very happy that Looq Records decided to come out with these 2 EP’s that helps connects the dots in the history of Reef Project. Hope you enjoy and please remember to chill.

System Recordings continues wither their Chill series of compilations with the newest. "Chill For A Summer Evening". There are some great tracks on here for sure and I am glad they picked my track Peacock Flounder to be among them. The release also made it onto the banner ads for Beatport’s Chill Out section and that isn’t a bad thing at all. Available at most online retailers and only 5.99 on iTunes. You can’t beat that.
